Message from our President, Maegan Spontak
Thank you for visiting the Junior Woman’s Club of Raleigh website!
On behalf of our clubwomen, I welcome you to our 2016-17 club year. Since 1928, the Junior Woman’s Club of Raleigh has served our community through leadership, volunteerism, community service, fundraising, and scholarships. I am very fortunate and excited to work alongside a group of dedicated women leaders as we improve our community for the generations to come.
One of the great honors of being president is being able to pick out a president’s project for the upcoming club year. Currently there are hundreds of families with loved ones with Down Syndrome in Wake County. While there are support groups and therapy programs, there has a yet to be a center in North Carolina where direct educational, therapeutic and career building programs are offered to individuals with Down Syndrome. Gigi’s Playhouse, a Down Syndrome Achievement Center, opened June 2016 in Raleigh. Their custom, research-based curriculum works towards advancing literacy, math skills, gross and fine motor skills, improving low muscle tone, building self-esteem, preparing for the workforce, and so much more. They do all of this while fostering acceptance, awareness and networking for parents, siblings, and the community. Gigi’s Playhouse is determined that cost will not be a barrier to anyone’s achievement! I am pleased to announce that the 2016-2017 president’s project will be Gigi’s Playhouse.
