Message from our President, Christy Frisbee
Thank you for visiting the Junior Woman’s Club of Raleigh website!
On behalf of our clubwomen, I welcome you to our 2017-18 club year. Since 1928, the Junior Woman’s Club of Raleigh has served our community through leadership, volunteerism, community service, fundraising, and scholarships. I am very fortunate and excited to work alongside a group of dedicated women leaders as we improve our community for generations to come.
One of the great honors of being president is being able to pick out a president’s project for the upcoming club year. Personally, I have a tremendous passion for cooking. I love to create and prepare long, laborious and interesting meals for my family and friends. And I love the feeling I get from watching people I care about enjoy a meal together. It is during these times that my house feels most like a home. But for the 173 women who were homeless in Wake County last year, building these kind of memories was just a dream. 70% of all individuals who required emergency shelter services, transitional housing or were unsheltered during 2016 were female. Providing a bed and shelter is the first step in helping break the cycle of homelessness. But there is so much more that needs to be done! It is for this reason that I am pleased to announce that the 2017-2018 president’s project will be Carroll’s Kitchen. Carroll’s Kitchen is a non-profit social enterprise that is dedicated to ending homelessness for women in Raleigh. Women are referred to the program through a partnering agency and are provided with an entire support system including housing, on the job training at their downtown restaurant, and life skills such as financial management. Carroll’s Kitchen is an innovative organization with a terrific mission and we can’t wait to do good with them this club year!
If you are seeking a venue for doing good for our community and building relationships with like minded women, our club is for you! If you are interested in learning more about the Junior Woman’s Club of Raleigh or the larger organization we are part of – the General Federation of Woman’s Clubs, please contact me or our Vice President of Membership Recruitment. Our doors are open and we look forward to hearing from you!
Yours in Service,
Junior Woman’s Club of Raleigh
