Message from our President, Ashley Rain
Welcome from the Junior Woman’s Club of Raleigh! It is my honor and privilege to serve as the Club’s 82nd President. The members of this Club are a caring and enthusiastic group dedicated to improving our community through voluntary service. We have the diversity needed to appeal to the different interest of our members as well as the needs of our community and beyond. What makes us thrive as a group is our unending commitment to help improve our community through philanthropy and service.
One of the first task as President is to select an organization to partner with that allows us to focus the work of our Club and make a difference in our community throughout the coming year. This year’s President’s Project is Meals on Wheels of Wake County. Meals on Wheels of Wake County was formed in 1974 and has been providing nutritious meals to the homebound elderly and persons with disabilities in Wake County in an effort to improve health, reduce isolation and prevent unnecessary institutionalization. They serve 1,300 meals per day in Wake County with the imminent danger of losing funding for 12,000 meals per year due to the budget cuts. When a volunteer delivers a meal to a homebound recipient, they are not just providing a meal, but they are also providing a visit and check-up. For so many of the recipients this is the only contact they have with others. The service brings comfort and hope to the lives of the many isolated elderly. Please take time to visit their website to learn more about this great organization that is dedicated to helping Seniors with food insecurities.
In addition to our work with the President’s Project and many other organizations within and around our community, we are also engaged in our GFWC-NC State President’s Project and Junior Director’s Project, Feed the Future, through financial support, food drives, and hands on projects. We also participate in projects focused on GFWC-NC points of emphasis including domestic violence prevention and children’s advocacy. Finally, our clubwomen encourage one another to share their unique gifts of time and talents to enrich the lives of others and at the same time, enjoy each other through fun and fellowship.
We invite you to explore our website to learn more about the Junior Woman’s Club of Raleigh. If you are interested in receiving more information about our organization or would like to speak to someone about attending an upcoming meeting, please email me or our Vice President of Membership Recruitment. Thanks for visiting us and we hope that you find the Junior Woman’s Club of Raleigh is just what you are looking for!
Yours in Service,
Ashley Rain
