Junior Woman’s of Raleigh Member Highlight #4

Why JWC of Raleigh?
I’ve been a member of the Junior Woman’s Club of Raleigh for 14 years.  During this time, I have met some of my best friends, participated in so many variety of volunteer activities and  have had a lot of fun!

I’ve had experiences in the club that have truly touched my heart.  Whether listening to a speaker from Interact or going to the Raleigh Rescue Mission for a craft with the children, I KNOW that this club makes a positive impact in the community with a strong commitment to service.

One year, the International/Public Affairs Community Service Program(CSP) worked with the organization, Samaritan’s Feet.  The founder of Samaritan’s Feet was invited to speak at a general meeting.  He spoke of his personal journey and what he had gone through and truly moved every person with his personal story.   JWC of Raleigh donated many pairs of shoes that had been collected as well as presented a significant donation.  Throughout the club year, Juniors collected shoes to continue to support this project.   When JWC of Raleigh works together, great things are accomplished!

On several occasions, I, along with women from the Home Life CSP, prepared and served meals to the families at the Ronald McDonald House in Chapel Hill.  After dinner, we played games or just listened to the needs of family members.  JWC members are compassionate and are committed to service!

One of my favorite activities is the annual Christmas Tree Lighting at the Capitol in early December.  I have helped with every aspect of this event from preparing the program to serving cookies and hot chocolate.  I love the event because it gets me in the spirit of Christmas with music, entertainment and Santa.  Juniors help make this event possible!

There have been several opportunities where I have helped to deliver meals and Christmas gifts to families in need.  The recepients are always so very appreciative.  I’ve heard comments over the years such as these gifts will be the only gifts that my children will receive.  Juniors are committed to helping others in their community!
I could give so many more examples of activities that have I truly enjoyed and that really impacted me.  Undoubtedly, I have become a better person for being a JWC member.  I have participated in volunteer opportunities that I never would have on my own.  I have become more aware of the needs in my community that I never would have known prior to joining the club.   I have formed friendships that I will cherish forever.

I soon will be graduating from Juniors and will be heading to the Woman’s Club of Raleigh.   I will miss everything about the JWC of Raleigh, but at the same time, look forward to new and different experiences and opportunities.  It’s been a fun and rewarding 14 years!!
